State Rep. Ron Robinson (R-Utica) has introduced a bill to waive licensing and fingerprinting fees for Michigan veterans applying for a Concealed Pistol License (CPL).
“As chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military and Veterans Affairs, and a veteran myself, I have spent the term engaging with fellow local veterans’ groups and retired servicemembers across Michigan,” Robinson said. “They have expressed to me that they already undergone extensive firearms training in service to our country. They carried firearms in defense of our freedom. It’s unnecessary, and frankly wrong, to charge them to carry lawfully in retirement.”
The bill would eliminate the fees associated with licensing and fingerprinting for CPL applications submitted by honorably discharged veterans. It aims to remove financial barriers and recognize the service and training veterans already bring to the table.
“Veterans are responsible, trained individuals with a deep commitment to protecting those around them,” Robinson said. “The spirit of duty doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off. My goal with this bill is to cut the red tape and let veterans keep doing what they do best: protecting our communities.”
